Does anyone know the status of the Liberty State Park box in Jersey
City, NJ? It is listed as unclaimed and there is no e-mail address
in the clues. Wondering if anyone has found it lately or knows
anything about it?
Thanks!

Amanda from Seattle and I looked for it when we were in the area in May of this year.
First off, it shouldn't be listed in NJ as officially it's in Kings County NY. But that
aside, the box is missing, and from researching the archives, it appears to have gone
missing as far back as July 2001. I have asked the webmasters to either remove the
listing, or add a line at the top that it may be gone since it requires effort, time and
money to reach this non-existant box, but I just checked and it doesn't appear to
been changed.

Thanks Princess Lea... I had seen the archived messages from June
and July 2001, but thought perhaps they were cases of "just couldn't
find the box." But it sounds like this one isn't going to be worth
the time and effort, and most likely is long gone.

I had a teacher from New Jersey tell me that New Jersey stole the Statue of Liberty from New York by virtue of the definition of the boundary between New York and New Jersey. The boundary is defined as the middle of the river. New Jersey has spent many decades dumping garbage along their shoreline and thus have extended it into the river, thereby moving the halfway point closer to the New York shore. At some point, the line moved to the point that the Statue is now in New Jersey!
I'm sure this technicality doesn't change the fact that the Statue is considered to be part of New York but I found it amusing that New Jersey could steal the Statue of Liberty with garbage. : )

The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island technically belong to New
York. Liberty State Park is on mainland New Jersey.
